Class Description:

In this masterclass, naturopathic doctor and clinical herbalist Dr. Marisa Marciano brings her extensive clinical, research-based experience to provide an understanding of herbal safety. We’ll explore both herbal actions and particular herbal constituents that pose potential concerns for use, so you can evaluate individual herbs through this lens. 

Dr. Marciano will provide an overview of herb-drug interactions to be aware of when combining the use of herbs with pharmaceuticals. We’ll investigate dosing considerations, including different categories of herbs and where they fall on the safety continuum, including how to approach the use of low-dose herbs, as well as major safety considerations in pregnancy and lactation. From this masterclass, you’ll gain a practical understanding to these topics that will leave you feel empowered in your herbal practice.

Instructor Bio:

Dr. Marisa Marciano, ND, RH(AHG) has expertise in both the education and clinical applications of phytotherapy. She received her medical training from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where she was an academic and faculty member for over a decade. 

Since 2011 she has maintained a clinical practice aimed at integrating the safe use of herbs alongside diet, lifestyle, and conventional therapies, while encouraging the holistic perspectives inherent to herbalism and a deep respect for the healing powers of Nature. Dr. Marciano is also the co-author of The Botanical Medicine Manual: A Quick Reference Evidence Based Guide, and is widely recognized for creating the celebrated online herbal resource www.thenaturopathicherbalist.com, both of which intend to serve as relevant and reliable sources of botanical information for both students and clinicians. 

She is also the owner and operator of Herbal Energetics (https://www.herbalenergetics.ca/), a company based on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia (traditional and unceded lands of the shishalh nation), focused on creating ethically sourced and organic herbal tinctures exclusively for health care practitioners.
